Weekly report 4/7/08

The close reefs off Scotts Head have been fishing well for good squire with a couple of big knobbies up to 8kg. Visitor Kevin Jones caught a 2.1kg venus tusk out of the same area. Grassy is fishing well for snapper with the odd pearl perch. Leatherjackets have invaded our waters with a heap at the Dot, Rocks in Line and those wider reefs. There were some great snapper caught off Fish Rock and Black Rock if you can put up with the rough conditions down south. Rat kings have made an appearance at the same location. Mac tuna are making another run while good tailor are about in close.
Blackfish are in good numbers in the river. Plenty are coming in at the Jew Bite and further around to the Wire Fence while on the other side of the river, around White Rock is fishing well for these tasty fish. If you are chasing flathead head up towards Stuarts Point and fish the shallows with plastics still working well. Bream are biting well on chicken and blackfish gut, mullet strips and live worms along the rock walls with good numbers up river around Kinchela and Smithtown.
The beaches were a little slow last week while the rockhoppers are having a ball with tailor and bream off the ledges along with the odd drummer.
