Weekly Report 8/8/08

Post by Tony Zann » Fri Aug 08, 2008 2:26 pm

It’s been a while since I have had a positive report but this week people got some good fish and left them biting. Fish Rock produced good numbers of kingfish up to 14kilos, plenty over legal with a few smaller snapper. There are a few mac tuna about around the Rock and good tailor are in close to the headlands. Leatherjackets are all along the coast and as hungry as ever. Snapper are still in good numbers off Grassy and Scotts with most fishermen boating nice fish. There is a future problem here; the bigger breeders of this species do have a liking for big plastic baits so let’s hope a good number of these majestic fish go back to the ocean after a photo. There is live bait all over the place at the moment.
It has been a struggle to find a keeper bream out of the river over the last week amongst the million juveniles. Late afternoon seems to be your best bet using live worms, chicken guts and mullet bait. Blackfish are being caught but you need to work for them, they’re not jumping on the bait at the moment. There has been the odd flathead about and quality bass up river that must be released for a few more weeks.
Tailor are in good numbers off the rocks jumping all over Raider and Quarterback lures with a few bream and drummer coming in as well. Smoky Beach has salmon and a few tailor while bream have been in the gutters. Main Beach has had some bream while Back Beach has the odd salmon and bream at the entrance to the creek.
