Weekly Report 15/8/08

Post by Tony Zann » Fri Aug 15, 2008 11:10 am

Bitterly cold mornings are hard to take but there are rewards if you are heading outside. Big kings are around Fish Rock at the moment taking live bait and lures, biting better with a bit of current. Snapper are in close to the rock and working well on floated pilchards. Jackets are all over the place, a little wider still in big numbers. The northern reefs have been hot again with Grassy giving up good snapper, no monsters reported put plenty around up to four kilo. The Scotts Head marks are also producing nice fish in about 40m including a few thumper samson fish.
Fishing the rocks was a hit and miss situation with tailor finicky last week but drummer have been on the bite. Big schools of salmon are still coming through, eating everything in their path. The north end of Smoky Beach has had the odd tailor, salmon and bream while Gap Beach has salmon and a few tailor.
Blackfish are not playing the game out of the usual locations with the North Wall appearing to be the most productive location. Kemps Corner is fishing well while they’re struggling for a feed along the fence and the Jew Bite, but late last week there were a few bag-outs caught at the mouth of the river. Bream are not in big numbers so fishing the early morning hours will improve your chances of getting a keeper. There were some good flathead reported last week on plastics and whiting showing up in Spencers Creek up towards the Lag.
