Weekly Report 29/8/08

Post by Tony Zann » Fri Aug 29, 2008 3:19 pm

The week started off fairly ordinary with strong SW winds, but by midweek things started to settle down. Those that headed outside and went north found snapper. Soft plastic in the chicken flavours are the bee's knees but for those that can't go past au naturel, pillies are best. Fish Rock still has a few bigger kings around, jigging or live baits are the go and some nice reds are still coming in. Col Rowsell and Rod Payne went wide for a feed of bar cod ,one fish went over 12.5kg. The jackets are still around but this week they seemed to slow down a little.
The rockhoppers have had a chance to fish the stones with some good results. Stuart Avery has had a great run on tailor with his biggest going 4.930kg. There are still some good drummer about and some nice bream, so give the stones a go.
Beach fishos have had it a little tougher with salmon being the fish of dominance and bream and tailor being secondary, but those that persist will get a feed.
The river has had resurgence of the blackfish with some fish going over 1kg. While the locals aren't bagging out, they are getting 10 to a dozen fish per outing. Flathead have come on the chew this week with some good numbers reported, soft plastics in red rum and ginger beer being the gun colours and whitebait and anchovies being the best of the naturals.
Now's the time to think about lay-bys for Christmas and we are getting our Christmas stock in.
