Weekly Report 26/9/08

Post by Tony Zann » Fri Sep 26, 2008 5:23 pm

Welcome to all our holidaymakers, hopefully we will have stable weather and a few fish about to enjoy.
Snapper made a scattered appearance off Grassy with a few around 3kg being caught. Morwong are in good numbers out wider with some nannygai about. Fish Rock has a few kings around and the odd small snapper but it hasn’t really fired for a few weeks. Fisheries have advised the FAD will be back at the same location in two weeks, just in time for the appearance of our summer mahi mahi. As far as the bait buoys in the Bay, they have disappeared; if anyone knows what’s happened let us know.
The river has started to fire up with some terrific flathead coming in. Small mullet are the gun bait on these fish but herring and 4” or 5” plastics are also doing the job. Jewfish have been active during the night hours with again live bait the go. There a lot of throwback bream about but persevere because there are thumpers in the river. Whiting were biting on nippers and live worms around the sand flats of Spencers Creek and Stuarts Point. Just when you thought the blackfish had gone the odd one is still being caught off the breakwall but weed is like gold.
Smoky Beach has been the pick of the week with some nice whiting along the beach with fair bream in the gutters. Tailor were hard to find but salmon are about to test your gear. Gap Beach has been slow with the better bet off the rocks on the northern end of the beach. Front and Back beaches have been fishing well for whiting and bream.
