Weekly Report 10/10/08

Perfect conditions for the second week of the holidays saw plenty of fishos dropping a line in the water with mixed results.
Fishing outside was a little tough with water temperatures down to about 19° and a slime in close affecting the bite. Fish Rock has small kings and some nice snapper off the rock with Rocks In Line out wider is fishing well for just legal snapper in good numbers. Grassy and Scotts have produced some snapper with a few monster units on the 7” plastics up to 8 kilo. Nice pearlies in 60 meters in the cleaner water. There were a few bar cod out on the wider grounds past 100 meters. Fisheries have replaced the FAD about 100 meters south of its usual location. The 11 Fathom Reef has been producing plenty of baitfish.
Spectacular conditions on the beaches last week had whiting and bream on Smoky and Gap Beach in the gutters. Back Beach fished well for flathead on the rising tide while Main Beach, close to the Boulders has bream and the odd whiting coming in.
Rock hoppers have struggled in the low swells and calm conditions.
If you caught a keeper fish in the river last week you would have worked for it. Bream have been hot and cold with some nice fish coming in on the last of the run out tide, just on the change. Flathead are about with live bait working well as well 4” scented plastics. Whiting were around the shallow water at Clybucca and Stuarts Point with some nice fish amongst them. Good reports from Smithtown with the bridge pylons producing quality fish.
