Weekly Report 7/11/08

Post by Tony Zann » Fri Nov 07, 2008 11:11 am

There is bait out there everywhere at the moment, boiling in the warming water, hopefully for a bumper summer season. Once again there were snapper and pearl perch on the northern reefs but patchy. Very strong currents last week out at the FAD made it difficult to fish, with the FAD float under the water a few meters. Earlier last week there were a few kings and the odd mahi mahi along this line. Fish Rock has been loaded with rat kings and a few snapper. James Lewis fished down south for a good 7.2kg snapper. Small yellowfin have been spotted around the area chasing the live bait.
Good bream are being caught along the breakwall close to the mouth of the river, with some of these fish a kilo-plus. Flathead have been in the shallow flats towards Stuarts Point and Spencers Creek, falling victim to 4” soft plastics, pillies, mullet and herring. Land-based, fishing from the Tavern down to the boat ramp should net you a lizard. Whiting catches are improving as the weeks progress with some nice fish on the sand around the charter boats to the rescue boats. Smithtown has been fishing well for bream on worms and nippers.
Whiting are being caught along Smoky Beach with a few bream but the big swells last week made it tough to fish. Gap Beach fished OK for whiting and the odd salmon. Rockhoppers have had a few tailor come through again with some bream and one or two drummer about.
With only seven weeks until Christmas, come in and have a wander around our fully-stocked store for gift ideas, with layby for your convenience.
