Weekly Report 5/12/08

Post by Tony Zann » Fri Dec 05, 2008 4:24 pm

It’s been a long wait but finally some positive pelagic reports from out wide. A group of holiday fishos fished the shelf for one black marlin and three hook-ups and a multiple hook-up on yellowfin tuna around 25kg. In 60 fathoms good pearl perch and long fin perch are in good numbers. Fish Rock is loaded with 59cm kings that will bite anything you throw at them. The good news is there were a few more legal fish over the week around the Rock. Small yellowfin were about in close from Fish Rock to Grassy Head with a few bonito and tuna. Snapper on the northern reefs were patchy with a few coming in a little wider along with pearl perch and the odd trag.
GTs are in the river at the moment with most fish around 2kg with most of the action at Jerseyville while whiting are on the bite on the flats near the trawlers. Flathead are in good numbers towards Stuarts Point and around to Clybucca. Keeper bream are harder to find with some nice fish coming in along the breakwall on the change of the tide. School jew have been around the Jerseyville bridge at night and another small cobia reported along the wall.
Beach fishing off Smoky slowed down last week with mainly undersize whiting with the odd bream taking live worms. There were a few salmon off the north end taking pilchards. Rockhoppers are catching bream, trevally and some tailor are still being reported off the ledges.
With Christmas only weeks away come in and check out our rod and reel combos from around $30 or tidy your tackle up with a new tackle box from our extensive range.
