Weekly Report 12/12/08

National Parks Association (NPA) and The Torn Blue Fringe report, this is an extreme green non-government community lobby group (you will be hearing a lot about over the next few months) has the potential to take away your right to fish in your favourite patch of ocean from Wollongong to Tweed Heads and one of their major targets is a 9km stretch with a total fishing lock-out both commercial and recreational from the tip of the Trial Bay Jail, south down to the northern end of Smoky Beach and three nautical miles to sea. This extreme action will jeopardise the close grounds where black and striped marlin, wahoo, cobia, sailfish and yellowfin follow the warm currents on their way south, or fishing Fish Rock for kings or trolling Green Island for tailor, all of which attract many tourist to this piece of paradise. If this lock-out goes ahead, over a short period South West Rocks will become a ghost town which will have a huge effect on the economic structure. To all the fishers from all over Australia, we need your help. Just a few minutes of your time, a letter or email to us, rocksmarine@tsn.cc which we will forward or send direct to the Deputy Premier, Carmel Tebbutt, Level 30 Governor Macquarie Tower, 1 Farrer Place, Sydney NSW 2000 or email dp.office@tebbutt.minister.nsw.gov.au
Just a quick report this week, small blacks around big schools of bait late last week with good kings around fish rock and mahi mahi working off the FAD. The odd snapper up north, a few longfin perch add bar cod out wide
Good whiting up river and flathead out of many locations in the river. Tailor off the rocks and whiting and bream off the beaches.
