28/12/05 Weekly Report

Post by Tony Zann » Wed Dec 28, 2005 12:01 pm

Our town has come alive with holidaymakers and from all reports the fishing has been good with some nice catches inside and out.
Beach fishing is a little tough at the moment due to red weed that has affected Smoky Beach and to a lesser extent Gap Beach. There have been whiting and bream on these beaches if you can put up with the weed. Back Beach is also fishing well for whiting.
The river is hosting a few shovel-nose sharks along the breakwall. The good news is there are a few jew and small cobia coming in off the wall using live bait or squid. Col Bradbury hooked a 5kg-plus flathead, just one of many nice flathead reported. Good bream are a little tougher to get but if you fish the tides on the darker, quieter hours you will improve your chances.
Marlin are starting to make an appearance with 2 or 3 caught each day. Most are out wider, around the 60 fathom marks at this early stage of the season. There has been plenty of bait out there so things are looking good for a great summer. There are mahi mahi around the FAD and plenty of kingfish around Fish Rock on metal Jigs. Good 2kg pearl perch are out wide of Grassy Head along with the odd snapper.
Watch the Bars and check your safety gear.
