Weekly Report 24/4/09

Post by Tony Zann » Fri Apr 24, 2009 2:20 pm

It wasn’t til the end of last week that boats could get out of the river and creek bars, due to another week of big seas and consistent rain. The water conditions are fair with only a few boats heading north, fishing hard for some panner snapper, the odd pearl perch and morwong out of the big swell. Hopefully we will have more reports once conditions improve next week.
Our river is starting to clear; even as far as Gladstone and Smithtown has fishable water. Jerseyville has fished well for good bream and some nice school jew jumping all over whole live worms. The boatshed down to the tavern has produced keeper bream and the odd flathead on mullet bait, Pilchards and whitebait are going well. Clybucca is clearing all the time with some nice fish coming out of there especially around the oyster barn and it will only improve. Bream and flathead are about along the breakwall with herring the premium bait. There are plenty of school jew from Jew Bite down to the end of the wall but the big guys have slowed down over the last week. Fishos chasing the sold out Mungo lures – new stock will be in this week.
Smoky Beach has fished well again this week with the sea coming down revealing some nice gutters along the beach. Good bream and dart have been caught on a rising tide with the odd whiting as a bonus. Some thumper tailor have been pulled out of the surf over the last week with some nice flathead as well. Gap Beach has had tailor, bream and a few whiting coming off the beach. The mullet fishermen are in town again, let’s hope that’s all they take this year and their by-catch kept to an absolute minimum. Rockhoppers are having a ball with good numbers of tailor about off the ledges.
The Seabreeze Fishing Club comp is on this weekend, open to everybody with some great prizes up for grabs. Entry forms available at our shop.
