Weekly Report 8/5/09

Post by Tony Zann » Fri May 08, 2009 3:49 pm

Almost perfect conditions last week meant there were plenty of fishos hitting the water in search of a feed. The northern reefs were slow with a few snapper being boated with the odd pearl perch. Trag are about out of the same location. Bait was a little easier to find last week. Bonito and mackerel tuna are all over the place so fresh dead bait is not a problem. If you don’t mind a stoush with a kingfish, now is the time to hit Fish Rock. They are there in good numbers, taking fresh and live baits, but to get that brute, 300g knife jigs are really working well. There have been a few snapper also around the Rock with a heap of tuna as well.
The river is loaded with bream just under size, which is a healthy sign, but if you want the better fish, fishing after dark seems to be producing the goods along the breakwalls with live worms, chicken gut and mullet bait all doing the trick. Flathead were about out of a few locations and some nice whiting were caught around Jerseyville and Clybucca. Bass were back on the bite around Frederickton and Belmore, which is a good sign that the water condition is improving up river.
Rockhoppers are eagerly waiting for the winter run of big greenback tailor and with only a few caught over the last week let’s hope they’re on track. Kingfish have been caught of the ledges in front of the lighthouse.
Beach fishos were left a little frustrated last week with one or two days on Smoky Beach whiting were everywhere then the next day you couldn’t lose a bait. There are plenty of dart, the odd bream and tailor coming in as well. Gap Beach has been producing some whiting, tailor and flathead out of the shallow water.
Special of the week: Alvey Blackfish combos only $99.95 with free float.
