Weekly Report 24/7/09

Post by Tony Zann » Fri Jul 24, 2009 1:03 pm

Almost perfect conditions graced our area for another week and with some mild days thrown in, heaps of fishermen were about. Blue-water fishos off Grassy and Scotts had success with some nice snapper with afternoon sessions producing great reds up to 5kg. Pearlies, trag and some good tusk fish were also in the bags. Fish Rock had a few keeper kings with one or two snapper and leatherjackets in close. Tailor were back on the menu trolling between Green Island and Fish Rock. Rocks in Line has been invaded by big leatherjackets. The water conditions are still not great but there are fish in it.
Those guys chasing blackfish are battling to get any quantity but the quality is there. Around Kemps Corner the boaties are getting better numbers with Jew Bite around to the fence a hit or miss affair. Schoolies are still about in the river with most around Jerseyville. Good reports of bream up river from Rainbow Reach to Kinchela along the walls. Live worms and whitebait seem to be working best. The cleaning table at the river boat ramp was a hot spot for a couple of visitors hooking a pair of kilo-plus bream on prawns. The odd flathead has been caught out of the river but nothing to get excited about yet.
The beaches for some reason are like a desert with only a few keeper fish reported. Smoky Beach is washed out in a number of places so watch high tides. Gap Beach has fished for a few bream and dart. Rockhoppers are battling to get a feed with the tailor just not playing the game yet. There have been a few drummer about while blackfish are in good numbers off the rocks in what has been a calm ocean.
The Seabreeze hotel fishing comp is on this weekend with increased prize value and still $2 for adults and 50c for juniors it’s worth a go. Entries are the shop and the hotel.
