Weekly Report 4/9/09

Post by Tony Zann » Fri Sep 04, 2009 2:51 pm

Everybody struggled last week to get a feed whether they fished outside or inshore. The reefs up north only produced the odd snapper and a few morwong. There were good numbers pearl perch out a little wider if you could get out there amongst the leatherjackets. Charter boat Sea Scout got some nice kings around the wreck late last week out about 12km. Shane Griffiths fished out wide on a flat ocean for a few bar cod to 13 kilo. Fish Rock has a good number of kingfish but most were rats with a few 80cm units.
Clybucca fished well for flathead with a few around 2 kilo readily sucking up 4” and 5” plastics and live herring. Whiting are just starting to show up but there has been no size at this stage. The breakwall produced a few bream and the odd blackfish is still hanging around. Giant salmon are being hooked on the end of the wall. Up river towards Smithtown there have been some bream and flathead with a bass or two coming in around the bridge now the closed season has finished.
The north end of Smoky Beach has had some nice bream with return of the dart along the beach. Plenty of salmon in the surf with only the odd tailor. Back Beach has a nice gutter at the moment with a few whiting.
Rockhoppers are doing a little better with some smaller tailor along the ledges with a few bream and the odd drummer. Reports from Hat Head were good last week with some nice tailor, salmon, bream being caught while rat kings were taking Raiders.
