Weekly Report 20/11/09

Post by Tony Zann » Fri Nov 20, 2009 3:23 pm

This week was had its ups and downs with the weather and fish but the river is starting to clear and the water outside is warming up.
The outside fishos saw some nice kings around Fish Rock but still a lot of rats. Snapper up north, with the odd pearlie and trag mixed in, but you’re not hiding behind the gunnels to put a bait on. I had reports of a few good snapper off the Jail Grounds, one going just over 6.5kg. A few hammerheads out wider in the blue water along with mack tuna so hopefully the pelagics are not far behind.
River fishing has calmed a bit with the water starting to clear. The fish are moving back up instead of all converging at the mouth. There have been some nice whiting near the Coast and Country Cabins and the sand flats down from there. Some good flathead along the wall, people bobby corking using whitebait, live poddies or anchovies have had the most success and there have been bream mixed in.
The rockhoppers are seeing some tailor with local Lisa weighing in a great fish at 2.6kg so let’s hope some more of this size keep coming.
Beach goers are picking up whiting, bream and dart on worms on a run-up tide.
