Welcome to all our holidaymakers, we hope your time is one to remember with the odd fish in the pan. Blue-water fishers have had something to smile about with a couple of black marlin showing up on cue on our first real warm current. Grant Speel from Penrith landed his 60kg black on a live bait just in front of the jail. Rod Payne fished out wide for a nice 18.5 kilo bar cod and Lanita Leddy on the same boat caught a 24kg hapuka on a Shimano 6500 BaitRunner. Snapper were in about 30 to 40m off Grassy last week with pearl perch in good numbers. The FAD is just starting to get some small mahi mahi around it. Fish Rock has kings about and one or two snapper were pulled out of there last week. Good stocks of live bait are here at the moment.
Whiting are in good numbers in the river, taking live worms and chasing those clear poppers and stickbaits. Flathead are readily taking live herring or mullet but if you don’t want the trouble of live bait, numerous plastics are working a treat. Legal bream are a little tougher to catch. Drifting the breakwall has been productive with pilchards, worms and whitebait. There are plenty of herring about off the jetties.
Smoky Beach has started to fire with whiting in the surf with live worms and pipis the baits to use. The Hat Head end of the beach is producing bream, dart and whiting. Gap Beach has had some nice tailor on the north end with the odd bream coming in. Main Beach has whiting with early morning and late afternoon.
Rockhoppers are getting a few tailor at the jail and jewfish under the lighthouse.
Special: GME MT400 (406mhz) EPIRB on sale at $449.95 while stocks last.
