27/1/06 Weekly Report

Post by Tony Zann » Fri Jan 27, 2006 9:08 am

Good reports from outside again this week with the pelagic fish haunting the bait balls around the Jail. There have been plenty of cobia around this season with good catches again last week, most between 10kg and 20kg. The spotties were a little finicky and there have been plenty of runs for a few hook-ups. A few Spanish mackerel have shown up but not in numbers yet. Marlin are about, most are between 30kg and 50kg. Kings are at Fish Rock with a few big ones amongst the rats with some small yellowfin. There are reports of small snapper around Scotts and Grassy Head and hammerheads are everwhere.
Beach fishing has been slow with whiting a little hard to find. Back Beach is producing a few nice whiting on live worms. On Smoky Beach you will battle for whiting and bream while Gap Beach has been producing a feed.
There have been some nice tailor making an appearance off the rocks in the whitewater this week. Some of these fish are up to 3kg. Small bream are also about.
The river is still dirty and fish are a little tough to get. With the new moon due this week the jewfish should be on. Good flathead are out there, it’s just a matter of finding them. Bream and a few whiting are also coming in.
Take care on the Bars.
