Weekly Report 29/1/10

Post by Tony Zann » Fri Jan 29, 2010 4:25 pm

After a positive start last week with some good Spanish mackerel catches it has slowed up somewhat with just the odd one coming in along with one or two spotted mackerel. Dolphin fish have been in good numbers but the size has not been there. The FAD is working well for dollies while one local landed an 18kg wahoo around the same mark. The ocean has cooled a little with the current heading north and while there are still heaps of bonito, slimies are not as plentiful. Morwong have come on the bite again as you head out a little wider. Good pearl perch have been off Rocks In Line with the odd snapper. There have been enough small black marlin in front of the Jail to keep fishos interested while the big blues out wider have been a non-event. Cobia have been sighted between Green Island and Fish Rock with just the odd one boated. Fish Rock has fished well for kingfish again with some nice fish coming in over last week.
It was hard to catch a fish off Smoky Beach last week with whiting going into hiding and only a few dart and the odd bream playing the game. There have been whiting on Main Beach and a few on Back Beach taking live worms. Rockhoppers have been amongst bonito and the odd tailor.
The river is fishing well. Flathead are in good numbers with the hot spots including the Cut towards Stuarts Point, Clybucca and in the dirty water at Jerseyville. Whiting are being caught along the wall with live worms and nippers. There have been a few bream coming in with some nice school jew on the run-out tide. Don’t forget the Seabreeze fishing comp this weekend with some good prizes available.
