Weekly Report 26/2/10

Post by Tony Zann » Fri Feb 26, 2010 1:42 pm

It has been a long wait but finally we have warm blue water coming from up north. Spotted mackerel are starting to appear off Grassy with a few Spanish as well chasing live baits. Snapper have gone quite with just a few pan-size fish reported last week. Scotts Head fished well for pearl perch and the odd snapper. Mahi mahi are in good numbers out at the FAD with some nice fish. Those that fished out on the shelf found the going tough with most not turning a reel. Cobia have started to show up with a few caught in front of the Jail and down along to Black Rock. There were a few kingfish around Fish Rock along with heaps of mac tuna and bonito. There were no reports of any marlin last week.
There were some nice bream caught after dark in the river on the rising tides with a few over a kilo. Flathead have been on the bite taking live bait and an assortment of lures. Whiting are in good numbers with fishos having greater success on a moving tide. There have been blackfish with some at Stuarts Point and a few on the breakwall. Along the breakwall there bonito are taking anything you throw at them. School jew are about from Jerseyville down to the mouth.
Beach fishing has been patchy with Smoky the pick of the beaches. The whiting numbers are down but the quality of fish is certainly there. There has been the odd bream and tailor about but few and far between.
Rockhoppers are catching bonito, mack tuna and the odd tailor off the ledges.
Don’t forget the Seabreeze Hotel is having its monthly comp this weekend, so be a part of it and win some great prizes.
