Weekly Report 9/4/10

Post by Tony Zann » Fri Apr 09, 2010 1:57 pm

A change in the weather conditions, along with a drop in the water temp, seem to have put the spotted mackerel off the bite. Fishos are getting twos and threes but are battling to get a Spanish. Live bait has been really tough to find in the normal haunts. Reef fishermen have been picking up a few snapper and trag out of the same locations. One or two cobia have been caught in front of the jail but with very little live bait about it is almost mission impossible. We did get reports of kings along the 60-fathom line on knife jigs. A few crews from Sydney fishing wide for a marlin or two with not much success. No reports from the FAD last week apart from a strong current. Fish Rock has a few kings about with the odd good tailor in close.
The river is as clear as I have seen it for a while with some nice flathead coming in. There have been a few tailor on the end of the breakwall early morning with the odd bream. Blackfish have started to appear on the cleaning tables so let’s hope it is a bumper season on the river. Whiting were in good numbers up river again last week. School jew are about around the Jerseyville bridge on a rising tide with a few whiting on the sand flats.
Tailor taken of the rocks in good numbers with some nice bream as well. The beaches are fishing well with good catches of tailor on Smoky and Gap. The Hat Head end of the beach has some nice whiting and the odd bream with a million dart out of the surf.
