Weekly Report 16/4/10

Post by Tony Zann » Fri Apr 16, 2010 4:10 pm

As the holidays draws to a close it will go down as one of the better ones with the weather and ocean conditions near perfect. Most fishos got a feed and some. Grassy Head has been like a car park on the spotted mackerel grounds with good numbers of fish coming in to the boats. The reef fish have been hard to get on these grounds so a trip out wider should get some results. The FAD has been patchy with a few dolphin fish about along with some nice kings on the 60-fathom line. Down south to Fish Rock, kings are around with a few reasonable sampson fish. Black Rock has been home to a number of cobia. These majestic fish are in bad need of a realistic bag limit. The Dot has been fishing well for a few kings and the odd reef fish. Live bait are in good numbers again and are working well on the spotties. Late last week the current was raging south making it tough to fish the bottom.
The river is loaded with bream but it is hard to get a legal one in the bucket, light gear on the change of tides should improve your chances. Flathead are in good numbers with whitebait doing the job. Whiting were tougher to get last week with your best bet to fish up river for a feed. The end of the breakwall is fishing well for tailor and bream.
The rock ledges from the Jail to the Lighthouse have been producing some cracker tailor with a few tuna. I have had some reports of drummer on the bite. Tailor have been on Smoky Beach early morning with a few bream and whiting. Gap Beach is fishing well for bream with one or two flathead on the north end.
