Weekly report 30/4/10

Post by Tony Zann » Fri Apr 30, 2010 12:09 pm

We have had another week of perfect conditions with some nice fish caught inside and out. If you have any freezer room after the great run of spotted mackerel there are still good fish up off Grassy and Scotts and seem to be getting bigger as the season finishes. There has been one or two Spanish around Scotts Head. Reef fishermen have been getting mixed bags with some fair snapper and pearlies with some big morwong up north. Kings and dolphin fish are around the FAD with the current a little better last week. Cobia turned it on late last week taking scads or slimies in front of the Jail with Craig and Matt from around Wollongong bagging a couple 25kg and 23kg. There were a few kings around Fish Rock with a heap of mac tuna and bonito. It is still desert out wide so save your fuel. Live bait was a little easier to get though the week.
The river is very clear at the moment so catching a fish in the middle of the day is tough so if you can get favourable tides early or late in the day you will be more successful. There are some nice flathead about with Max Brenton from Collombatti landing a 4 kilo fish around the Jerseyville Bridge on prawn bait. Other lizard hot spots have been Clybucca and Rainbow. Bream have been tough at night with the full moon but should be ready to go late in the week with light gear. Whiting are in smaller numbers towards the mouth but there a few still coming in up river.
The beaches have slowed down over last week with only the odd bream and whiting off Smoky and Gap while a few tailor are being caught around the rocks on pilchards and garfish.
If you are a fan of the Berkley MF40 vibes we have them for $9.95 now.
