Weekly Report 13/5/10

Post by Tony Zann » Thu May 13, 2010 4:33 pm

We have had our first hint of the winter to come with cool morning starts for the fishos. Spotties are still there to be caught, not in any numbers, but they are good quality fish. Bottom fishers are getting some nice trag off the Middle Grounds. Snapper have been around Scotts Head in reasonable numbers with a few pearl perch out a little wider. There are still one or two mahi mahi from the 60m mark. Green Island has been fishing well for bream and the odd tailor in the white water. Fish Rock has been home for a few nice kings and mac tuna. The only cobia reports last week came from Hat Head. Bonito are once again all over the place while getting good slimy mackerel is near impossible.
We have had a good run of nice bream and the odd mangrove jack along the North Wall last week with the better fish coming in on dark. Flathead have been around Clybucca and Rainbow Reach and also a few in front of the tavern down to the boat ramp. Blackfish are slowly filtering into the river but have not been on the bite. There has been the odd tailor off the end of the breakwall taking whole pilchards. Jerseyville is fishing well for flathead, bream and the odd whiting and GT.
Smoky Beach has had some quality tailor coming in early morning with plenty of dart along the beach taking worms and pipis. It was tough to get a feed of whiting last week on all beaches. Gap Beach has a few tailor mainly off the rocks with some fair bream off the sand.
Rockhoppers are getting a few tailor, bream and tarwine with a few jewfish getting hooked under the lighthouse. There should be a few blackfish off the rocks as they make their way to the river systems.
