3/2/06 Weekly Report

Post by Tony Zann » Fri Feb 03, 2006 8:17 am

It’s like someone has flicked the switch and turned off the pelagic fish, because late last week they were not playing the game. There have been a few cobia caught in front of the Jail but they are becoming hard to find. Marlin also have been tough to hook up with fish to 50kg coming in. Live bait schools are not as plentiful as last week and the current, if any, is south which will make it tough. There are some big sharks out there causing some havoc with fishos. Spotties have also been slow with only a few being caught off Grassy Head. The odd snapper has come in out of the same location. Fish Rock has been quiet with the same current problem.
Big flathead are about in the river chasing live mullet, herring and some plastic baits. Some nice bream are being taken around the cleaning table at the boat shed. Whiting have been around Kinchela taking nippers and live worms. The river is starting to clear so it should start to fire.
Off the rocks you will find bream and tailor if you put in the hours. Smoky Beach has been fishing well for some nice whiting but there is still a weed problem here, while Gap Beach has whiting, bream and the odd flathead coming in.
Check your safety gear and take care on the bars.
