Weekly Report 30/7/10

Post by Tony Zann » Fri Jul 30, 2010 3:32 pm

We had some good results last week with snapper in fair numbers off Grassy and Scotts heads. They were not big fish but there were a few about. Pearl perch are out there with Col Rowsell landing a 3.3kg pearlie, while some nice venus tuskfish were caught out of the same area. Fish Rock had some kingfish action early in the week with leatherjackets in close around the rock. Out in front of the jail, pearl perch, trag and jackets were about. Bonito and tailor again were in close to the rocks in good numbers. There were fish caught on the shelf last week but the reports are sketchy. Hopefully by the time this goes to print we will have one of our bait buoys back in off Main Beach, which will be great unless the tuna boats come in again.
The fickle blackfish season continues with last week fishos picking up just a couple each session. There were better bream about with some nice fish coming in along the north and south walls. The odd flathead was around Clybucca and Stuarts Point. School jew were harder to find but with the fresh coming down it should put them on the bite over the next week or two.
The rockhoppers are doing well with tailor still on the bite with the odd drummer and blackfish. The lighthouse is producing tailor, salmon and the odd jewfish. The beach fishermen are getting tailor, bream and salmon off Smoky and Gap beaches.
• Special: Finn Nor Jig and Spin rods $210; shop around, this is a very hot price – while stocks last.
