9/2/06 Weekly Report

Post by Tony Zann » Thu Feb 09, 2006 9:08 am

We have some frustrated anglers here at the moment. There’s plenty of live bait but the marlin are not really interested at the moment.
But saying that, there have been some caught averaging around 40 to 50 kilo. Cobia are in front of the Jail and north around Grassy Head. These fish are taking live slimies and most are over 8kg. Steve Robinson and Tricky Ricky from the Central Coast picked up a few up to 22kg. Snapper, one going 8kg, are also up at Grassy along with some smaller yellowfin tuna, the odd spotty and Spanish mackerel. Fish Rock has been a little slow with a few kingfish and snapper coming out. There are plenty of mahi mahi out there around the FAD and other traps creating a bit of cover.
There are some nice tailor being caught off the rocks this week on garfish and pilchards. The beaches around town are slow apart from the odd bream and whiting. There are still some beaches affected with the red weed problem.
Flathead are the fish to chase in the river at the moment. If you haven’t tried soft plastics or hard body lures before, now is the time to do it. Flathead are suckers for these artificial baits. There are some good bream around amongst the little ones.
Check your safety gear and take care on the bars.
