Weekly Report 12/11/10

Post by Tony Zann » Fri Nov 12, 2010 11:25 am

We should have a result on Fish Rock and Green Island soon. Even if it is a negative result, please keep calling Fisheries Minister Steve Whan on 02 9228 3800, fax 02 9228 3804 email office@whan.minister.nsw.gov.au. and strongly protest the plan restricting fishing in these areas.
We had the odd good day last week without a heap of rain or a dirty nor’-easter. The northern reefs are battling to produce a feed with only a few snapper and trag coming in on an uncomfortable sea. If you venture to Scotts you should pick up a few pearl perch and trag with the odd venus tusk fish. We have had no reports from the FAD or the wide reefs due to the conditions. Green Island has some cracker bream – watch your hook size, you don’t want to hook a grey nurse shark. Fish Rock has some nice kings being caught with a few bonito and mac tuna.
Whiting are on the bite in the river with the hot spots towards Smithtown. Live worms and nippers are the gun baits. There have been some thumper flathead down by the Tavern. Joe Dallacqua picked up a classic dusky around 6kg. The breakwall is fishing well for school jew taking everything from plastics to herring pieces. There have been some nice bream about as well.
Whiting are the target fish on Smoky Beach taking worms while bream are there in good numbers along the beach. Main Beach has whiting and flathead around where the catamarans were hired. Gap Beach has bream and whiting on the north end.
Lifejacket rules and regulations have changed from November 1. See us at the shop for the latest regulations.
