Weekly Report 26/11/10

Post by Tony Zann » Fri Nov 26, 2010 11:18 am

North-easterlies all week whipped the Bar up a little keeping fishos on their guard. The current has been roaring south so most fishos are staying in close. Mac tuna have invaded Fish Rock and areas around it so while kingfish are about in good numbers, the tuna will be chasing your bait. There was the odd mahi mahi up to 10kg hooked last week. Small snapper have been of Scotts and Grassy in about 30m or 40m. The boys say the water colour is fantastic and combined with the increasing temperature should all be set to fire up for the summer season. There has been plenty of live bait around even if the slimies are on the big side.
If you are chasing a feed of whiting head down to Smoky Beach and fish either tide with live worms. One holidaymaker pulled out a couple of very nice bream along the same beach. Gap Beach is fishing well for whiting with a few tailor on the northern end of the beach.
If you can’t pick up a fish in the river at the moment you’re not trying. Bream are running along the walls taking fish bait or gut. There have been quite a few over a kilo with the run-in tide meeting the dirty water. School jew are in good numbers towards the mouth, these fish are jumping all over 5” and 7” Gulp plastics and live poddies. Flathead are in good numbers up towards Stuarts Point along with some nice whiting on the sand flats.
Don’t forget to check out the new lifejacket rules in force now.
