Weekly Report 10/12/10

Post by Tony Zann » Fri Dec 10, 2010 10:16 am

Conditions last week were not ideal but an improvement on the week before. Fish Rock has been the location of choice with some nice kingfish coming in with the odd snapper. Mackerel tuna were in good numbers again around the rock with one or two bonito about. Good shows of live bait are being reported which is a good sign for the upcoming season. There were a few snapper caught off Scotts but there was no size about them. Water temps have been between 22° to 24° with dirty colour coming from the river in close. No reports from the wider grounds due the sea conditions with the relentless north-easters. Unfortunately the boat ramp around at the Jail Camp Grounds will be closed from December 18, let’s hope the river bar behaves itself.
The river on the incoming tide has been productive in the cleaner water along the north and south walls for some good school jew. These fish are jumping all over 5” and 7” Gulp or live bait. The run-out tide with the dirty water and weed has been almost unfishable. Fish Clybucca and Andersons for flathead, they are happy to take a darker coloured lure in the dirty water. Smithtown appears to have shut down by all reports but the odd whiting has been caught around Kinchela and Jerseyville.
The beaches have been slow with just the odd whiting on Smoky and Gap while some ripper tailor are being caught off the Rocks from the Jail to the lighthouse. We have a store bursting at the seams with great Christmas gift ideas, come in and check us out.
