Weekly Report 16/12/10

Post by Tony Zann » Thu Dec 16, 2010 8:56 am

Good conditions, blue warm water and good catches recorded over the past week. Stock up on your wire leader because there are spotted mackerel off Grassy. They’re not in big numbers at this stage but the quality is there. Good numbers of snapper on these northern reefs as well with some trag and morwong. The afternoon change of tide is your best option if the conditions allow. The current is still full on out wider with a few mahi mahi around the FAD. Fish Rock is producing the odd snapper and a heap of rat kings. Bonito and mack tuna are in good numbers.
With the rain holding off for a week or so, the river is clearing up nicely. Whiting are still in good numbers from the mouth to Kinchela with some fish absolute crackers. Nippers and worms are still your best bait. Good flathead are being caught drifting the breakwalls with the odd school jew as well. Stuarts Point waterways have been producing whiting and flathead on the drop-offs. Jerseyville has whiting, flathead and schoolies around the bridge pylons and sand flats. Herring are in good numbers around the boat ramps and jetties.
Brian Whitcher from Coffs Harbour fished the point off Horseshoe Bay with a No 2 whiting hook, 6kg line and a worm for a monster 5kg flathead. Smoky Beach is fishing well for whiting. There has been the odd bream coming in with a flathead or two in the gutters.
We have a store bursting at the seams with great last minute Christmas gift ideas – come in and check us out.
