Weekly Report 23/12/10

Post by Tony Zann » Thu Dec 23, 2010 2:46 pm

A big welcome to all our holidaymakers, I hope your stay is memorable with plenty of fish and good weather.
It was another productive week outside with the spotties slowing down a little but we did have a few reports of spanish mackerel around 8kg. Snapper and pearl perch have been caught off Scotts Head while Grassy has had some nice snapper as well. Peter Haigh from Crescent Head caught a bruiser cobia weighing 35 kilos on a mackerel ri, taking around an hour to land. The FAD has a few dolphin fish around it at the moment so Mark and his son Trevor ventured out there for one 9 kilo dolly in awful conditions on a live slimy. Fish Rock is fishing well for kings and the odd snapper with mac tuna and bonito in good numbers. Live bait has been all over the place in some very warm water
There are some monster flathead in the river at the moment. I can only hope the big mothers are being put back to make babies. Whiting have appeared up river again towards Smithtown. Jerseyville and Rainbow Reach have school jew in fair numbers while Clybucca and Andersons are fishing well for whiting. The breakwall is fishing well for bream on worms while the odd school jew has been cruising along the walls as well.
Smoky Beach has had some nice whiting coming in with plenty of dart along the beach. There has been one or two tailor coming out of the surf early morning. Gap Beach is fishing well for whiting with a few nice flathead taking pilchards. On behalf of all of us at Rocks Marine Bait and Tackle, have a merry Christmas and a great new year.
