Weekly Report 14/1/11

Wouldn’t you know it? Just when the game fish were on the bite the heavens opened and we have a big brown out to sea? But compared to Queensland we got off lightly. Our thoughts are with them during this disaster.
Just before the brown water wahoo were starting to make an appearance in front of the Jail down to Fish Rock. Marlin were being hooked with around 80kg the average. I am not sure how far the dirty water is out to sea. Hopefully we will have better news next week.
On the positive side, get ready for the run of jewfish along the breakwall when the dirty water starts to slow. The fishing is a little tough with the debris flowing down the river but there are some fish coming in. Flathead and the odd whiting are being caught up towards Stuarts Point while Clybucca has some flathead as well. Back Creek is fishing OK with some nice bream and flathead coming from the causeway on the way out to the river.
While this fresh is with us the beaches are the best bet to catch a fish. Smoky Beach is clearing up well with some nice bream, dart and the odd whiting getting caught. Back Beach should fire up with the fish being washed from the river mouth flow. We have had reports of the odd good flathead of this beach. Gap Beach has a few whiting coming in with a bream or two out of the gutters.
Rockhoppers have nothing to cheer about. With sloppy seas and murky water it’s probably best to have a sleep-in.
