Weekly Report 11/2/11

Hook up your trailers, we have pelagic fish on the bite again. Good numbers of Spanish were caught through the week mostly off the Jail Grounds and down towards Black Rock. 6kg to 10kg is the average but there have been some big units amongst them. Cobia also are in the mix with most coming from the Jail Grounds . Yellowfin have started to show up from the Jail to Fish Rock, most are around 4 to 5 kilo. Andrew Madden and his offsider Les Roberts took an hour to land a 65 kilo yellowfin, his weapon of choice was a Mackerel Mauler heading south to Black Rock while a 35 kilo unit was caught the day before. Grassy has been productive for small snapper, trag and the odd good pearlie with a few spotties at the end of the week. Live bait has been hard to find.
Our river system is loaded with bream but most are undersize. Schoolies have been along the breakwalls in fair numbers while the corner of the Cut has been productive for above-average Jew. Flathead have been a little scarce but there has been the odd one around Stuarts Point and the Flats around Jerseyville. Smithtown has been fishing well for whiting as have Kinchela and Jerseyville. The end of the breakwall produced a few cobia around 4 to 6 kilolast week . James Micallef from the Hunter Valley pulled a 7 kilo jew on live yakka and a nice 2.5 kilo lizard on a Killer Tomato Squidgy.
Rock hoppers are getting into the odd good tailor, mac tuna and jew in front of the Lighthouse while Smoky Beach has some whiting and bream.
