Weekly Report 28/2/11

Post by Tony Zann » Fri Feb 25, 2011 2:31 pm

There were testing conditions early last week with some pretty strong south easters whipping up the ocean out wide. Most of the action was off Grassy with some nice Spanish mackerel coming out of the close grounds. Spotties were quiet again with only a few caught off the northern reefs. Fair snapper and trag were caught out of the same area. Mark, Trevor and his mate Peter Bowen from the Central Coast fished towards Rocks In Line for two Spanish and a nice mahi mahi. The FAD is still not producing apart from the odd one. There were marlin hook-ups in front of the Jail last week as well as the odd wahoo and yellowfin. Slimy mackerel are still hard to find so yakkas are your only choice. Pilchards are doing the job.
The river has been fishing OK with some nice flathead coming out of Clybucca and Stuarts Point, while drifting the breakwall has also been productive. The South Wall has some fair bream on the change of tide. Whiting have been around Jerseyville, Clybucca and up river to Kinchela. There are plenty of herring about to use as live bait for that big jew or flathead. There is still the odd school jew about with the Cut Through fishing well.
Smoky and Gap beaches have a heap of dart with the odd whiting, bream and tailor out of the surf. Small jewfish and some nice bream have been on the Hat Head end of Smoky. There are some blackfish turning up along the ledges. Tailor are about but there is no size in most of them while bream are in fair numbers off the Jail.
