This is the place to be if your thing is to chase pelagic fish. Wahoo are as thick as I have ever seen them with 25kg units not uncommon. They are being picked up on live yakkas or mid range trolling lures like Rapalas, Halco Laser Pros and Mackerel Maulers from Scotts Head all the way down to Hat Head. Spanish are in good numbers with a few boats bagging out through the week (thanks for the feed, Alex Robinson). Spotted mackerel are being caught off Grassy, happily taking floating pilchards. Longtail tuna are about with a heap of mac tuna and the odd bonito for fresh bait. There have been a few kings around Fish Rock but the current restrictions make it hard to fish for them. Slimies are still hard to find but there are heaps of yakkas. Guys fishing the bottom are picking some nice snapper, pearl perch and trag off Grassy.
A few GTs have started to appear around Jerseyville along with some good whiting and the odd flathead. If you are getting bitten off in the river tailor close to a kilo have started to appear from the mouth to the boat ramp. Whiting are in good numbers towards Stuarts Point while there have been a few flathead in the creeks at Clybucca. James Hasset caught a nice flathead around 4kg off the breakwall. Once again a legal bream has been hard to find but there’s plenty of throwbacks to keep you amused.
Smoky Beach is fishing well for nice whiting with some big dart. Along the beach there has been the odd tailor and flathead. Hat Head has had a few Spanish and tuna off the ledges.
Check out our new Okuma F1-11 high-grade graphite blanks with Fuji guides and cork grips. 7’ rods were $149.95 down to $99.95 until sold.
