Weekly Report 2/4/11

Post by Tony Zann » Sat Apr 02, 2011 11:15 am

Our incredible run of pelagic fish slowed down a little last week. Grassy has been producing a few spotted mackerel and the odd Spanish but there is a lot of water between them. A couple of hours north they are still thick so the run is not over yet. The wahoo have been fair with a few being caught from Grassy to Hat Head. The gang from Rocks Off pulled one out of the water just shy of 30kg. Fish Rock and Rocks in Line have also produced a few. Bar cod and the odd kingfish have been caught out on the wide grounds. The snapper guys are getting a few off Grassy and Scotts with trag and pearl perch in the mix. Slimies are still a no show but sharks are all over the place eager to rip at your fish before it gets to the boat.
It is a battle to pull a legal fish out of the river at the moment, in particular up river where maybe the fresh is causing problems. The breakwall is fishing OK on the incoming tide with some nice bream, some around a kilo. Fisho’s drifting the north wall have been picking up a few fair flathead. The whiting have shut down around Clybucca and Stuarts Point but there’s plenty of undersize bream to take your bait. Smithtown and Belmore have been producing good bass for weeks now, if you haven’t had a go at bass yet do yourself a favour.
There are a few tailor off Smoky Beach and the rock ledges. Whiting are a non-event while the odd bream is there to get you a feed.
