Weekly Report 21/4/11

Happy Easter to all, let’s hope it is one to remember. We have had another week of great conditions on the ocean and right on cue the spotted mackerel and Spanish have started to play the game. Grassy and Scotts are producing some bigger spotties around 7 kilo attacking pilchards in a berley trail while some nice snapper have come in from the bottom. Midweek went off with wahoo, Spanish and spotties all caught on the northern reefs. Fishos venturing wide past 100m got into bar cod up to 10kg. Small yellowfin and bonito have been in fair numbers from the Jail to Fish Rock. Rocks in Line is fishing well for morwong, snapper and the odd jewfish. Bait numbers are on the improve around the bait grounds.
Small jew have been caught along the breakwalls on the north and south side of the river with the better ones around 4kg to 6kg. Nice bream are on the move in the Macleay with some reported up to 1.5kg. One or two mangrove jack have been caught off the wall with a lot more lost to the rocks. Drifting the mouth to the Boatshed has been working well for flathead on the change of the tide. Jerseyville has a few flathead and the odd whiting on the flats and some nice bream along the banks. There has been some great bass action up river.
Tailor are in good numbers off the rocks here and at Hat Head feeding on pilchards and garfish. Smoky Beach has a sprinkling of whiting along the surf with a few bream and tailor at first light. Main Beach has a few whiting, bream and flathead.
