17/2/06 Weekly Report

Post by Tony Zann » Fri Feb 17, 2006 12:29 pm

There has been a slight improvement this week with some quality fish coming in but the conditions were very ordinary and the fishos deserved their catch.
Black Rock and Fish Rock started to fire this week with good kingfish caught, some over 20kg. A couple of sailfish and the odd marlin have been caught but it’s sure a mystery because there are acres of bait out there. Cobia are being caught but not in the numbers of two weeks ago. Sharks are a problem here, hitting the cobia like live bait before you can get the fish to the boat. Spotties have been tough but late last week the numbers started to improve. There are plenty of small yellowfin around from Grassy to Fish Rock taking small skirted lures.
Tailor are making a return to the rocks with some crackers coming in off our ledges and also off Hat Head. If your want quality bream bait throw small metal spinners off the rocks amongst the frigate mackerel, salt them down and freeze them for the bream season.
The river has had the red weed return in smaller quantities but flathead are not bothered by it with quality fish coming in. Some good bream to a kilo about. Whiting are there on live worms and nippers but there is a lot of water between them.
Check your safety gear and take care on the Bars
