Weekly Report 6/5/11

Post by Tony Zann » Fri May 06, 2011 4:29 pm

A big well done to the local committee of CAFR and all those involved who fought for a reversal of the closures around Fish Rock and Green Island. We’re back to the original restrictions while a new study is completed regarding the grey nurse sharks.
It was certainty hard fishing last week with the huge bar earlier in the week and the southerly swell that came in, most boats stayed in the river. There were no reports of any mackerel off Grassy and Scotts but there were a few snapper on the bottom. Fish Rock is producing some nice kingfish along with just undersize rats. There has been the odd snapper out of the same location. Trag and jewfish are in fair numbers around Rocks in Line while off the Dot there have been some big morwong and the odd pearl perch.
There is a good colour in the river at the moment which is good for the guys who chase jewfish. Along the breakwall seems to be the hot spot with some nice schoolies coming in. The wall is also working for the odd big bream taking herring, tuna and gut bait. There have been a few flathead around the Tavern down to the boat ramp. The pylons at Jerseyville bridge are producing some good bream and small jewfish.
Main Beach and Back Beach will be home to some big salmon for a few weeks; these fish are great fun to catch but not much chop to eat. Smoky has a few bream, whiting, tailor and salmon. There’s not much fun for the rockhoppers with the big swells but it might gouge out the sanded up holes.
