Weekly Report 20/5/11

Post by Tony Zann » Fri May 20, 2011 3:36 pm

Another week of big seas, especially out wide, has kept fishos in close looking for the odd reef fish. Grassy has been productive for trag with good numbers coming in from about 60m and closer. There has been the odd snapper and pearl perch off the northern reefs. One or two boats ventured out to the wide reefs and came back with three nice bar cod around 10kg and some good kings. Fish Rock has some nice kingfish, a few mac tuna and some snapper using floating baits. It is still worth towing a lure close to the rocks for a nice tailor or two.
Rock hoppers are getting good tailor off the ledges. The Gutter is producing good numbers on pilchards and garfish. North Gap and the lighthouse are also giving up some tailor, drummer and bream.
The mullet netters are still on the beach but there have been good bream, a few dart, some big salmon and the odd tailor. Back and Main beaches have salmon in good numbers with the morning the best time.
The best reports from the river last week were from Kinchela to Smithtown with some cracker bream and nice flathead being caught. School jew were around Jerseyville with a FEW Bream, there’s not much size about them but you should get a feed. The end of the breakwall has a few salmon and tailor while there has been the odd bream along the wall with some nice fish late afternoon. It won’t be too long before the first run of blackfish comes in the river so dust off your gear and let’s hope for a great season.
