Weekly Report 26/5/11

Post by Tony Zann » Thu May 26, 2011 3:04 pm

More crappy weather last week has frustrated the fishos no end. We have had a few guys go outside for mainly reef fish. One boat landed a reasonable Spanish and the next day bagged a good spotted mackerel so the odd one must still be about. The catch of the week was Craig Cohen’s 42kg cobia on dead bait off the pinnacles in front of the Jail. Some nice snapper are off Grassy with pearlies a little wider. Fish Rock has a few kingfish while there are morwong and snapper off the Dot. Let’s hope the weather calms down so we can get out for snapper with some of the new season plastics now available.
I don’t know what’s happened to the tailor off the rocks but they’re off the bite. There are a few salmon about but they’re not what the doctor ordered. There is the odd bream, blackfish and drummer locally and a few jewfish off the ledges around Hat Head.
Finally there is a sprinkling of blackfish coming into the river. They’re definitely not in any numbers but enough to get the fishos salivating. Quality bream are hard to find along the walls but this should improve over the next few weeks as the water cools. The odd flathead is being caught but over the next few months they do get a little sluggish, so you have to put the hours in. School jew are in fair numbers up river and taking live bait and bigger plastics. Don’t forget, bass are off limits from June 1 to September 1.
