Weekly Report 17/6/11

Post by Tony Zann » Fri Jun 17, 2011 1:53 pm

To date this year 1241mm total rainfall, 82 wet days and 84 dry – no wonder we are all fed up with the gloomy conditions. Our thoughts are with the local folk along our river system and we hope their damage has been minimal.
On the back of the recent reversal of the closure of Green Island and Fish Rock, Primary Industries have released a discussion paper for the grey nurse shark protection. If you fish these areas and want to continue to have access to these great locations please take the time to have your say and fill out the submissions form now available. The paper is on public exhibition until Friday the 26th of August 2011. You can pick up this paper from Rocks Marine Bait and Tackle or download it from www.dpi.nsw.gov.au/fisheries. The report is extremely biased against recreational fishers so it is most important you have you say.
The fishing reports were a non-event with the hideous conditions so all I have for you is Smoky Beach is quite clear of rubbish and giving up plenty of salmon, a few tailor and dart. The Hat Head end of the beach, while a little dirty from the creek, has had some fair jewfish out of the surf. The rockhoppers are getting some nice tailor and the stones should be productive as the seas calm down.
Now is the time to fish the breakwall for some jew that just love these current conditions. Frenzy, Killalure and Berkley Monster lures go well for the classic big jew.
Better news next week, I’m sure
