Weekly Report 22/7/11

Post by Tony Zann » Fri Jul 22, 2011 1:40 pm

Most fishers were blown off the water last week so the outside guys were forced to fish in close. Trag are in big numbers off Grassy with a few pearl perch and the odd pan size snapper. Leatherjackets are out there if you want to chase those toothy critters. It has been slow around Fish Rock with a few small kingfish taking baits while a the odd snapper are coming off the bottom. Green Island is fishing well for bream with some nice tailor in the white water.
Blackfish are in good numbers along the river breakwall out of their usual haunts. The incoming tide is the popular one. Back Creek is fishing well but it can be shoulder to shoulder down there. Salmon and tailor have been on the end of the wall while bream are in good numbers along the wall. Fishing the tide with as little weight as possible has proven successful. The odd flathead caught out of the cold water but I would stay out of the main river and head around Clybucca and Stuarts Point.
Fishing has been tough on the beaches with the strong winds but there are fish coming in. There are some very nice bream off Smoky Beach with a dwindling number of tailor. Now is the time to fish for drummer, these tasty fish are in good numbers along the rock ledges.
Welcome to all the fishers competing in the AAA Australian Titles held here over a 3-week period with all weigh-ins taking place at the Country Club.
