Weekly Report 19/8/11

Post by Tony Zann » Fri Aug 19, 2011 4:58 pm

Some fairly ordinary weather week slowed the fishos down and kept outside guys in close. The northern reefs have been producing some nice pearl perch off Grassy while the odd good snapper has come out of the same location. Scotts Head is also giving up some nice snapper, the odd pearl perch and tusk fish. Around in front of the Jail and the Boulders, mack tuna have been boiling on the surface in close, giving great sport on light gear. Green Island is bream city at the moment, even though the water is a greenish colour. Further down at Fish Rock there are a few small kings about and a healthy numbers of grey nurse sharks, one diver quoted about 25 – yes, 25.
In one week I have seen the biggest couple of bream I have ever seen but there are not many around. There are plenty just under size along the walls caught on pilchards and herring. Blackfish are there but the numbers are not. Quite a few have been around a kilo. Forster is just now getting good numbers of blackfish coming in their river so hopefully it will be our turn shortly. There were a few flathead caught through the week but they are hard to find in the cold 14° or 15° water.
Tailor are reluctant to bite at the moment but the salmon are willing and able with a couple of these up to 5kg. Bream and the odd whiting are on Smoky and Gap while tarwhine, salmon and drummer have been in good numbers off the rocks.
