Weekly Report 2/9/11

Post by Tony Zann » Fri Sep 02, 2011 5:47 pm

Last week brought some good snapper action off the northern reefs with some fish around the 4 to 6 kilo off Scotts. Trag are back on the bite with good numbers coming in. Quality pearlies are about but they have been harder to find. There have been some strong rumours yellowfin are on the wider grounds along with good kings up to 10 kilo. Fish Rock has some rat kings while Green Island has bream and the odd tailor.
Before our big hailstorm, whiting were all over the place up river but the water has gone brown which may put them off the bite. Jerseyville has a few bream and flathead coming in with a great chance of a nice schoolie in the dirty water. Further down river bream are along the breakwalls, these are not world beaters but there is the odd buck. Fishos chasing luderick are frustrated with the run of fish, most are managing a few but that’s about it.
The beach fishing has started to pick up with some nice catches of bream on Smoky with a few whiting and salmon in the bag it is worth the effort. Main Beach has salmon in good numbers taking slugs and pilchards. Gap Beach has bream and the odd sand flathead and whiting. Off the ledges trevally, bream and tarwhine are in good numbers while tailor and drummer have been a little harder to find.
Bass are back and the fish to chase after the season closure. This time of the year they are normally in the deeper water but its still worth a lure in the snags. If you’re in the area call in and check our range of hand crafted wooden lures and other proven bass catchers.
