Weekly Report 9/9/11

Fishos found it a little tougher to get onto fish last week with the water still a greenish colour in close. Snapper were spasmodic on the northern reefs but there were a few standouts like Narelle Bunt’s 5.6kilo red last weekend. There were some nice pearl perch caught from the Dot up to Scotts Head in about 50m. Late last week, in about 300m off Hat Head, 22° water in a strong current heading south, one boat hooked their first marlin (striped around 90kg) for the season. The boys said it was amongst monster striped tuna hitting the marlin lures. Fish Rock has a few kings, mostly rats and the odd snapper on the bite.
Head up river if you want a feed of whiting, they are being caught as far up as Smithtown. Have a flick around Jerseyville for some flathead and bream while there have been school jew across from the Jersey boat ramp taking live worms. It is the same story as last week with the blackfish, some guys are getting them, and some are not. Bream are in good numbers along both sides of the breakwall. They are still getting the odd salmon and tailor off the end of the wall.
Drummer are in fair numbers off the ledges with salmon and bream and if you’re lucky a lonely passing tailor may be tempted. Smoky Beach has been giving up some nice bream and whiting with our favourite salmon, while Gap also has whiting taking live worms
