Weekly Report 16/9/11

Post by Tony Zann » Fri Sep 16, 2011 4:30 pm

Last week has been a hint of summer to come, afternoon north-easterlies and great warm days. Fishos are taking advantage of the conditions and hitting the water. The northern reefs are producing good numbers of trag in about 40 or 50 metres. There have been a few snapper and pearl perch out of the same location. Down south to Fish Rock the action has been poor. Last week the water clarity around the rock was zero with not even a rat king on the bite, due to a very strong current heading south. There were a few boats venturing out wide where the reports were bleak.
Bream were the mainstay along the breakwall with some nice fish coming in during the early morning incoming tides. The luderick fishermen have dropped off but the fish haven’t, good numbers were caught last week so don’t pack the gear away yet. Flathead were more active with the great weather warming the water a little. Guys flicking plastics for these fish were having great success on a number of different lures. We had another good showing of small jewfish along the breakwalls and bridge pylons.
Main Beach and Back Beach have a few whiting plus the odd angry salmon latching on to your light gear. Smoky Beach is fishing well for bream, whiting and salmon with the odd dart. For the guys fishing the rock ledges we have had reports of tarwhine, bream, salmon and the odd tailor and drummer.
This week we have Penn Spinfishers and Live Liners on special, well worth a look.
