24/2/06 Weekly Report

Post by Tony Zann » Fri Feb 24, 2006 5:23 pm

For a change we have had a week of good conditions but unfortunately the fish are not jumping in the boats, not without some effort, anyway.
In the river this week there have been some nice whiting as far up as Smithtown. Flathead are about biting on fish baits and assorted plastic baits. Good bream are along the breakwalls during the quieter hours of the afternoon and evening using light gear.
Those fishing the rocks have been rewarded with some nice tailor with the odd bream and down at Hat Head they are bringing in tailor and small tuna.
Not spectacular on the beaches at the moment apart from a few whiting, bream and the odd tailor coming out of the surf.
The guys fishing outside are still struggling for a marlin but late last week there were positive signs with a few hook-ups. Bigger marlin are out wide at the Canyons. Yellowfin are here in good numbers in close along with cobia. There have been some great snapper off the Jail Grounds with Keith Farlow hooking a 7.5 kilo fish while Les and David Hale hooked a 9kg snapper and a 12kg cobia. kingfish are around Black Rock and Fish Rock.
Check your safety gear and take care on the Bars
