Weekly Report 23/9/11

Post by Tony Zann » Fri Sep 23, 2011 3:38 pm

We have been blessed with another week of great weather and ocean conditions. Outside fishos battled for a feed last week with the snapper a little patchy on the northern reefs. There were a few pearl perch coming in but no size about them. The good news is the trag are in good numbers from Grassy to Scotts Head. The Dot has been producing some nice morwong and the odd snapper while at Fish Rock the kingfish action was a little more promising than last week. Late last week the FAD was repositioned, this time with a longer mooring so it could be 100m from the old GPS location. Coffs Harbour has had some good marlin action in 24° water so let’s hope they’re on their way down.
Holidaymakers have been fishing Main Beach for whiting, bream and dart on live worms while from Back Beach along to the breakwall, salmon have been busting up light gear. Smoky Beach has whiting and bream with the odd dart and salmon. Watch out driving along the beach, on a high tide there has been some temporary sand erosion in one spot.
There was no joy for the rockhoppers last week with only a few salmon and tarwhine coming off the ledges.
Kinchela is the hot spot for whiting at the moment with a good chance of hooking a school jew on live worms. Flathead are starting to show up on the flats while good numbers of fair bream are along the walls.
