Weekly Report 7/10/11

There has been no change in the weather, but a least the ocean has come down so fishos are back out there. Reasonable kingfish have made a return to Fish Rock with some nice ones caught over the long weekend in fairly ordinary conditions. The only sad thing was the large number of divers there made it almost impossible to get a productive drift going. If you are heading north to Grassy Heads, pearl perch are in fair numbers, as are snapper, but the reds are small. Rocks in Line and the Dot have been producing a feed of assorted reef fish. There are still good amounts of baitfish about, which is a promising sign.
It looks like we have another fresh in the river but it hasn’t put the whiting and the soapy jew off the bite up river around Kinchela. Last week there were some 70cm-plus flathead caught off the breakwall., if you fish after dark you need to get through the shovelnose sharks. There has been the odd bream along the walls, finding the big ones is the tough part. Flathead and whiting through the Cut are in good numbers on the flats and drop-offs.
It has been a hit and miss thing on the beaches with Smoky your best bet for whiting, bream and dart while the odd salmon is still in the mix
